SUNDAY OR SATURDAY, WHICH IS THE BIBLICAL SABBATH?
Romans 3:4
God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
THE CURRENT CONVERSATION REGARDING THE SABBATH CENTERS ON WHETHER THE
BIBICAL DAY OF REST BELONGS ON SATURDAY (The Seventh Day of the Week) or Sunday (The First Day.) Almost the entire Christian World, and others, are familiar with the “Seven-Day WEEK” in Genesis Chapter One of the First Week, called the “Creation Week.” The Days of the Week are as follows: First-Day, Second-Day, Third-Day, Fourth-Day, Fifth-Day, Sixth-Day, and Seventh-Day, later named Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
To all Bible believing Christians, the Scriptures admonished us in Romans 3:4 ; LET GOD BE TRUE, AND EVERY MAN A LIAR, Suggesting the Scriptures and Scriptures Alone (Sola Scriptura). THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW, MARK, LUKE AND JOHN RECORDED EIGHT TIMES, SUNDAY OR THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK APPEAR IN THE NEW TESTAMENT.
Here is the evidence:
(1) Matthew 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher.
(2) Mark 16:1-2 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. 2 And very early in the morning, the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulcher at the rising of the sun.
(3) MARK 16:9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
(4) LUKE 23:54-56 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on. 55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed, and beheld the sepulcher, and how his body was laid. 56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment. LUKE 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulcher, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
(5) JOHN 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulcher, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulcher.
(6) JOHN 20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
(7) ACTS 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
(8) 1 CORINTHIANS 16:1-2 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
THERE IS NO SCRIPTURAL EVIDENCE FOR FIRST DAY SABBATH KEEPING. PLEASE NOTE THAT PROPER SABBATH KEEPING MUST BE DONE FROM SUNSET TO SUNSET; LEVITICUS 23:32 SAYS:
From even unto even shall ye celebrate your Sabbath.
And in MARK 1:32
And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
BEFORE THERE WERE CLOCKS, IT WAS THE SUN THAT MEASURED THE DAY, AND THE MOON TO MEASURE THE NIGHT. THE INVENTION OF A CLOCK WAS NOT UNTIL ABOUT 1300 A.D.
PSALM 136:8-9
The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth forever: 9 The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth forever.
BY ALL BIBICAL ACCOUNTS THE DAY DOES NOT BEGIN AT MIDNIGHT, BUT AT SUNSET. IN THE GENESIS ACCOUNT GOD DIVIDED THE LIGHT FROM THE DARKNESS, AND THE LIGHT (12hours of daylight) HE CALLED DAY, AND THE DARKNESS ( 12 hours of darkness) HE CALLED NIGHT, AND THE EVENING (DARK) AND THE MORNING (LIGHT) HE CALLED THE FIRST DAY. Notice the Dark Part of the Day comes first, beginning with Sunset.
THE BIBICAL SABBATH:
Genesis 2:1-3
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
THE APOSTLE PAUL KEPT AND PROMOTED THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH:
ACTS 18:4
And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
PAUL UPHELD THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH LONG AFTER THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS: ACTS 13:42-44, ACTS 15:21, ACTS 16:13, ACTS 17:1-4, ACTS 18:4
